About Me
DeAnna began a career in teaching in 2006. She has taught grades K - 8 and has this experience through the Department of Education. In addition, she has taught at private institutions. One of DeAnna’s strengths is being able to bridge the gap where a deficit exists in reading and math. In addition, she provides students and parents with strategies to overcome behavioral issues that impede the learning process.
DeAnna is the founder and executive director of Moving Forward. Moving Forward is an umbrella for a host of programs including a 6 week summer program, tutoring services, mentoring, empowerment and parent workshops. In the future we hope to expand our services to provide afterschool.

About Me
Peace, I am a native of Brownsville. My family moved to Williamsburgh when I was three, then to Laurelton in Jamaica, Queens when I was 11. I first learned of our great and glorious heritage, at age 13, while watching "Like It Is" hosted by the late great Gil Noble (whom I was able to thank in person 7 years later). I haved lived in Oakland, CA, Mobile, Al, Baltimore, MD and currently Goldsboro, NC. I was the program co-ordinator for an non-profit called "ALKEBULAN VILLAGE, INC"-now defunct (not affilated with an organization with a similiar name in Detroit, MI). I teach African Studies children classes. I am also an Arabic teacher for adults at "AL-FALAQ ISLAMIC CENTER" , where I am an Assist. Imam and charge of Education (both organizations are in the early stages of establishment). I have my own organization that produces a quarterly newsletter, NEW AFRICAN REVIEW (renamed, NEW AFRICA RISES) and a pamphlet series, NEW AFRICAN HISTORY SERIES. I have written a book entitled, THE DEVELOPMENT OF AL-ISLAM IN THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN COMMUNITY (released 2012) which I self-publish through my business, KANEMBU HOUSE PUBLISHERS & BOOKSELLERS. The organiztion I produce my pamplets and newsletters from is called, NEW AFRICAN HERITAGE SOCIETY. I hope to have a center one day for all of my activities called the KANEMBU HOUSE. I have two blogs: JUSTICE4JIBRIL (http://justice4jibril.blogspot.com), which is about the strange circumstances surrounding my oldest son's 2009 death, and www.mustafaalkanemi.wordpress.com which puts the focus on the efforts to produce the KANEMBU HOUSE, which like your efforts will be modeled after the SCHOMBURG CENTER in Harlem. I was very excited when my cousin Patricia Williams told me about your existence. Please keep me abreast of your events and activities as I plan to do for you with mine. Thank you for being there! May you continue to be blessed by the Creator, in your efforts! |
